Heat Storm - Outdoor Infrared Heaters

Approved outdoor dining in Pennsylvania supports the use of infrared heaters

06.23.11

In the borough of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, council members have approved an ordinance that will allow local restaurants to use outdoor patios. There are at least five restaurants within the borough that are planning to incorporate outdoor dining into their operations. In order to keep customers satisfied on a year-round basis, restaurant managers will need the energy efficiency and affordability of infrared heaters.

According to the Journal Register PA, the new ordinance requires at least three feet of walkways must be available for pedestrian traffic in front of the restaurants and cafes with patios. Also, patio dining must be concluded by 11 p.m. every night, and the sidewalk must be cleaned by the following morning. Chairs and tables must also be removed on a daily basis to prevent night prowlers from tampering with them.

At a cost of less than 14 cents per hour, the targeted warmth of infrared heaters will not be dispersed by harsh winds and bitter temperatures. Inferior sources, such as propane heaters, usually cost about three dollars per hour.
