Infrared heaters and the Snowy Luau Weekend04.29.11 |

To celebrate the coming of spring, West Virginians have been hosting an annual weekend event for the past 17 years at the Timberline Four Seasons Resort and ski area. Frostbite is an issue, especially since those engaging in the weekend’s Hawaiian theme typically wear shorts, flowered short-sleeve shirts and grass skirts, according to The Herald-Dispatch. The most reliable way to keep participants warm is through the use of outdoor infrared heaters. Native Mountaineers likely get so tired of enduring long winters that they’ve decided to incite ritualistic summer themes amidst a blustery environment – almost as if they can force the cold weather away by participating in the luau. There is pageantry involved, as the party is commenced by the crackling of fireworks above the mountaintop. Immediately after the initial explosions, skiers descend the dark slopes with blazing torches in their hands to represent lava sliding down an erupting volcano. Then the celebrations occur, featuring a roasted pig, live entertainment and authentic Hawaiian dancers. Infrared heaters are better than alternative means of warmth, particularly for large scale events such as the Snowy Luau. At a cost of about 14 cents per hour, Heat Storm devices can provide comfort to large areas of space in short increments – making them more energy efficient than typical heaters. |
